EST EN

HI!

Red Rat Resole is the first ever resoling workshop here in Estonia!

This means if you bring your shoes to me you'll get them back wicked quick - in less than a week, so even if you only have a single pair, don't hesitate to get the most out of your shoes and get em resoled before it's too late!

My name is Lauri and I've been a climber for a little over 10 years now. Getting your shoes resoled has always been a bit of a hassle here in Estonia and because of this I recently decided to start doing it myself.

I went to Lofoten to the Arctic Soles workshop in order to learn the trade first-hand and now recently opened my own workshop here in Estonia :)

You can see what's going on in the workshop and get a peek behind the scenes by following me on Instagram.

Prices

We currently offer two different services: climbing shoe sole replacement and toecap repair.

A regular resole costs 55 euros while repairing the toecap is 15 euros extra.

The final call on whether or not a shoe needs a new toecap is made while repairing the shoe, you can get some indication by reading this.

You can either leave the shoes in a dropbox at Kivi Climbing bouldering gym or send them to me via Omniva parcel stations. The shoes should be repaired and back with you in less than a week (might take longer if sent by post)

FAQ

When is the right time to get my shoes repaired?

You should bring in your shoes when you notice the rubber on the tip of your toe start to develop a dip and show the rand rubber beneath. Shoes looking something like this usually do not require rand repair (but I can only say for sure after having disassembled the shoe)

This shoe does not need a toecap to be resoled

Shoes that look like this already require the rand to be patched up, too

This shoe does needs a toecap to be resoled

Shoes with holes through the inner can no longer be resoled

This shoe cannot be resoled
What rubbers do you use?

Currently I stock 3 different compounds:

Vibram XS Grip 2 - the softest and thus stickiest of the three, with the downside of being less durable and not as supportive on small edges.
Vibram XS Edge - the hardest of the three, best suited for edging on tiny chips or outdoors and offering good support and durability, but having less friction than the other two compounds.
Davos Stick Zero - a less known rubber, but just as good as Vibram and sits perfectly in between grip and edge for those who want the best of both worlds.

Why should I get my shoes resoled?

1. It's cheaper because if brought in before busted, shoes can be resoled many times over, making it much more cost effective than buying a new pair.
2. It's better for the environment, as repairing the climbing shoes extends their lifespan, saving both the leather and Italian craftsmanship from ending up in the bin too quick.
3. It's less painful than breaking in new shoes as the resoled ones already fit your foot.

Should I wash my shoes before bringing them in?

Actually no, please don't. Much worse than them being dirty is if the shoes are moist or shrunken due to having been dried before resoling them.

What happens if my shoes cannot be resoled?

If before or during the repair it turns out your shoes can not be resoled you'll be notified and refunded for the repairs, but not the shoes. I can send them back to you or dispose of them myself.

Do you do velcro repair?

Yeah, I can repair both the closure straps and pull tabs in the back.

THE RAT'S ON VACATION

I'm away from the workshop for the duration of July, meaning I won't be working on any new orders for that time. I'll still try and answer any questions or other messages.

You can still bring or send in (Järveküla Rimi Omniva parcel station) your shoes, but be warned that you'll get them back in the first half of August.
